Spinal Cord Injuries
Injuries to the spinal cord will injure the lower motor neurons at the same level and the upper motor neurons for the potions of the body below the site of injury. This will result in paralysis on the same side of the body as the injury. Paralysis caused by an injury to a lower motor neuron is characterized by total flaccidness in the affect limbs, muscle atrophy, fasciculations and deinnervation supersensitivity, a condition where denervated muscle fibers become "supersensitive" to acetylcholine[40]. |
